Now interviewing for a part-time (Approx. 30 hours/week) American Sign Language (ASL) Staff Interpreter to join our Deaf Services Team !

 

Aspire Indiana Health is a nonprofit provider of comprehensive “whole health” services including primary medical care, behavioral health, recovery services and programs addressing the social determinants of health such as housing and employment. Aspire has health centers in five Central Indiana counties serving Hoosiers of all ages and walks of life.

 

Position Summary

The ASL Staff Interpreter will provide interpreting services to Deaf, Deaf-blind and hard of hearing clients, families and/or staff in clinical or administrative settings, and to hearing individuals when communicating with Deaf or hard of hearing individuals.

 

  • Provide support services, which may include coordinating schedules of interpreting staff and scheduling freelance interpreters
  • Provide instruction in the use of adaptive equipment
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Aspire staff and supervisors, as well as external contacts
  • Schedule with agencies for freelance interpreters, as needed
  • Respond appropriately to direction and constructive criticism from management
  • Respond in a calm and effective manner to a variety of demands, projects and personality types
  • Collaborate and communicate with all parties involved in working towards client’s identified goals

 

Education/Experience/Requirements

  • High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language or related field highly preferred
  • Mental Health, substance use treatment center and/or medical setting experience highly preferred;
  • Understanding of the behavioral health field, a plus
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between multiple locations to interpret and attend trainings and/or meetings
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance and a driving record that meets the guidelines and requirements of the organization
  • High-speed internet access at home for telehealth assignments
  • Availability to work Monday - Friday, some evenings may be required 

 

Certifications

  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) preferred and/or any state certification in ASL Interpreting highly preferred

Drug screen, TB test and extensive background checks (including Criminal History, Sex Offender Registry Search, State Central Registry Check, Education Verification, and Professional References) are required of all Aspire employees.
